Mainers Know Scallops.
There are more scallop fishermen in the state of Maine, which produces less than 2% of US sea scallops, than in the entire US Atlantic Scallop Fishery, which produces 97% of US sea scallops. This site is a labor of love produced by several organizations, including Downeast Dayboat, The University of Maine’s Sea Grant Program and the University of Maine’s Center for Culinary Innovation. It is maintained by Downeast Dayboat and though we try our best to be impartial, it should be noted that Togue Brawn, owner of Downeast Dayboat and Dayboat Blue, is a passionate advocate for Maine scallop fishermen. While we try our best to stick to facts rather than opinions, there’s certainly a chance some Maine-centric biases show through occasionally!
